Meet Smokey! This handsome, happy boy is a true people-lover who greets everyone he meets with a wagging tail and plenty of enthusiasm. With his beautiful, non-shedding coat and fun-loving personality, Smokey is quite the catch!

Smokey was surrendered by an elderly couple who loved him but realized his energy level was simply more than they could manage. Thankfully, one of our wonderful southern fosters stepped in, and now Smokey is ready to find an active forever family that can keep up with his zest for life.

Smokey loves other dogs and happily plays with his canine foster siblings. He is respectful of more dominant dogs and will take the submissive role when appropriate.
He also lives with cats and shows little to no interest in them.
He loves children too, although his enthusiasm and still-developing manners may be a bit much for very young toddlers right now.

He does well on a leash, but Smokey is such a social butterfly that he may pull or jump up when people pass by—he simply wants to say hello! With continued training, he should learn that not everyone needs a personal greeting. He is also a good traveler and has done very well on his trips to and from the vet.

Smokey is crate trained and settles in at night until morn, when he’ll let you know he’s ready to start his day. His housetraining is coming along nicely, although he isn’t quite rock solid yet and may have a little excited pee when he gets especially happy.

Smokey would be a wonderful match for a younger, active family looking for a companion to join them on long walks, hikes, outdoor adventures, and plenty of playtime. He still needs some polishing on his house and leash manners, but he has so much love and happiness to give.
With an active lifestyle, continued training, and a family to call his own, this sweet, enthusiastic boy is sure to shine!!!

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the South and New England.  

Adoption fees cover pre-adoption veterinary costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age-appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England, if necessary. The adoption fee is set at a level that enables adoption; they do not cover our costs. Thank you for your generosity and interest in our dogs!

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse, whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
