Roan
Size: Medium
Age: Young
Gender: Female
Breeds: Shepherd, Crossbreed
Roan went to a great home here in New England, but we quickly learned that small dogs are not her thing. She does best with larger dogs and has a playful, high-energy style very typical of a Mal. She’s already started basic training (and loved it), is a big fan of swimming, and is 100% crate trained—she happily trots into her “house” on her own.Age: Young
Gender: Female
Breeds: Shepherd, Crossbreed
No Cats
Roan is now back in foster care and looking for a home that understands her breed mix—Shepherd/Mal experience is a must for this girl. She’s incredibly friendly with people and a total “leaner”—the kind of dog who melts into you for affection.
Roan’s story is one of true resilience. This sweet young girl survived being struck by a car, suffering major injuries that included fractures in both back legs, her pelvis, and her jaw. Thanks to a compassionate stranger who rushed her to safety, she was able to enter our rescue and get the urgent care she needed.
After several surgeries—one of which required the amputation of a rear leg—Roan proved just how tough she is. Life on three legs hasn’t slowed her down in the slightest; she runs, plays, and embraces every day with unbelievable enthusiasm. She’s estimated to have been born around December 23, 2024, and weighs about 45 pounds, which should be her full adult size.
She is fully vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up to date on heartworm and flea prevention.
Roan does best with larger dogs who can match her play style and energy. She loves kids, though her enthusiasm may be a bit much for very young children. She’s curious about cats but has been appropriate with them on leash. She’s kennel trained, walks beautifully on leash, enjoys car rides, and absolutely loves the water—a kiddie pool is her happy place.
A secure fenced yard is a must for Roan. She thrives having space to zoom, play, and soak up the sun safely.
Roan isn’t just a survivor—she’s a joyful, spirited dog who radiates zest for life. She’s looking for an active, experienced home that will embrace her energy, continue her training, and appreciate just how special she is.
If you’re searching for a fun, affectionate, and resilient companion, Roan may be your perfect match.
