Meet George....a VERY handsome, big-hearted shepherd mix.

George’s journey began on a lonely country road, where he and his siblings were found after being heartbreakingly dumped. Sadly, one of his siblings didn’t survive, but the rest of the little family was brought to safety and into loving rescue care. Now, George is the last of his litter still waiting for his forever home, and he’s so ready to find it.

George has the sweetest personality. He is just obsessed with humans. They are the greatest thing on earth to him. Better than food and toys! He is happiest in close proximity to humans who want to cuddle and play with him, but he is also happy to relax quietly in his crate if his belly is full and at least some of his puppy energy has been expended! He sleeps quietly in the crate all night long.

George is still working on house-training, but he is learning fast! He's also nearly mastered sit and down, and is currently also working on stay and come! He is a very SMART boy.

Given his background, George is understandably a little tentative in new or busy environments. He has also exhibited some resource guarding with other dogs as well as leash reactivity.

An experienced home that will provide the training and structure George needs to thrive and to grow into a confident adult dog is a must. Consistent training and mental stimulation will help George thrive.

ATTENTION PUPPY ADOPTERS:  You must attend training/behavior classes with your new dog unless you are an experienced dog owner and your adoption coordinator is comfortable with your experience.  This requirement is for the benefit of you and your puppy, so if you experience behavior issues, you have a point of contact.

PLEASE—Think long and hard before adopting a puppy. Consider the lifestyle change this puppy will come with. He cannot be crated for more than 3-4 hours until he's older. Puppy-proofing your home will be necessary. Puppies scratch and nip, so if you have small children, can they handle this? Training will be so crucial in this puppy's life. Do you have the time?

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue. Our dogs reside in various locations throughout the South and New England.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
