Meet Derek – a gentle, sweet-natured boy with the kindest heart. Though a bit shy at first, Derek is learning every day that the world isn’t such a scary place after all. He’s blossoming in his foster home and showing just how loving, loyal, and special he truly is.

Derek came from a litter born to a feral mama in Texas, and now he’s discovering the comforts of family life.

He loves people of all ages—he’s been wonderful with both children and seniors—and he never turns down gentle pets or belly rubs. Once he warms up, he’ll happily curl up beside you in a recliner and keep you company while you watch TV, soaking up every bit of affection.

This handsome boy gets along beautifully with other dogs and enjoys their company, whether it’s at home or out and about. Another dog in the home could help boost his confidence, though he’ll do well as an only pup too, as long as his people are patient and understanding of his tender spirit.

Derek is house-trained with the help of a doggie door, crates well (and even self-crates sometimes), and rides quietly in the car. On leash, he’s making great progress—he heels nicely and greets new people with his gentle, friendly nature, even if unfamiliar sights and sounds make him pause for a moment.

His perfect home will be one that gives him time to settle in, understands that he may always have a little bit of shyness, and takes care to keep him safe with a leash or secure fence. With love and patience, Derek will reward his family with endless devotion, quiet companionship, and a lifetime of loyalty.

This precious boy is ready to find a forever home where he can feel safe, loved, and cherished.

Just to let you know, MASSACHUSETTS residents will incur an additional fee of $100-$130 for a 48 quarantine period after the dog arrives in New England. Your adoption coordinator will discuss the requirements with you.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION - 

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.  

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
