Meet Mateo, the sweet and spunky boy with a heart full of love! This adorable pup is all about cuddles, naps, and attention—he’s a true attention-seeker who loves being the center of your world.
Don’t be surprised if he whines or barks when you’re busy with your phone or chatting with someone else—he’s just making sure you know he’s there, waiting for his moment to shine! He can be a bit bossy at times, but who can resist that face?

Mateo's journey has not been easy. He and his siblings were tragically hit by a car while they were sleeping in the middle of a highway. Mateo suffered a broken leg, and after an initial splinting, he had to have it removed due to a skin complication.
Now on restricted activity, this brave boy is focused on healing and being the best cuddle buddy he can be. While he's on crate rest and limited to potty breaks on a leash, Mateo still manages to bring joy and love to everyone around him.

Before his injury, Mateo was a playful and energetic pup who adored playing tug-of-war with his canine foster siblings. He even sleeps soundly with his foster mom, bringing comfort and companionship to her every night.

There are cats in his foster home, and he loves to bark at them! According to his foster, he occasionally tries to get under the bed with them, and the cats give him a little smack to the face. He’s a bit startled at first, but it doesn’t take long before he’s back at it—barking playfully whenever he spots them again!
He’s a curious and playful boy who just wants to make friends in his own way.

Mateo is looking for a forever home that will provide him with the love, care, and attention he deserves. He’s ready to show you just how much he can love and be loved.

ATTENTION PUPPY ADOPTERS:  You must attend training/behavior classes with your new dog unless you are an experienced dog owner and your adoption coordinator is comfortable with your experience.  This requirement is for the benefit of you and your puppy, so if you experience behavior issues, you have a point of contact.  

PLEASE—Think long and hard before adopting a puppy. Consider the lifestyle change this puppy will come with. He cannot be crated for more than 3-4 hours until he's older. Puppy-proofing your home will be necessary. Puppies scratch and nip, so if you have small children, can they handle this? Training will be so crucial in this puppy's life. Do you have the time?

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - 

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue. Our dogs reside in various locations throughout the South and New England.  

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
