Shelby is a slim, sleek-coated girl who may just be the most intelligent dog you’ll ever love!Age: Young
Gender: Female
Breeds: Shepherd, Crossbreed
No Cats
As a young pup, this black-and-white beauty was living on the streets in Mississippi. Her Southern rescuers provided care and comfort and helped her through a hip injury that required surgery, from which she fully recovered.
Shelby has been on an active journey since arriving in New England: She lived with a professional canine
trainer for one month to receive 1:1 training; then fostered with other dogs with an amazing Paws foster family; was adopted for a short time, but it was not the right fit. She now lives as a solo dog with another Paws foster family.
Everyone she has met in her journey raves about her, and says the same thing: She’s so sweet… and SO SMART!
Her adorable ears show you she’s alert! She’s keen, observant, and quick to adjust. And she’s thriving as the princess with her foster family.
Allowing for the time she needs for decompression time and consistent structure will be essential for supporting this sweet girl's transition to a new home. Shelby uses a slip lead and e-collar and knows all the basic obedience commands (e.g., sit, stay, heel, place, off, down, leave it, wait, etc.).
A favorite of Dogs by Doug during her 1:1 training, Doug will provide guidance to Shelby’s new family to help her settle in and learn more advanced commands. Continuing her training is a must for this talented pup. Agility classes or games would also be excellent ways for Shelby to thrive and shine. She’ll love it, and you will, too!
A home with a fenced-in yard to run and get her zoomies out will be great for her. Due to her size and rambunctious nature, she should be with children over age 12.
While Shelby prefers to be an “only pup”, she should do fine with a mature, confident canine sibling. She roughhouses for play and doesn’t always read cues when another dog is overwhelmed or ready to stop. Her adoption process will include PAWS-coordinated outdoor and in-home meet-and-greets with canine sibling(s) to observe interactions.
Shelby is crate trained, but will do best in a home with limited daytime crating. (She’s very social and LOVES living with someone who works from home!) She is also housetrained and enjoys car adventures. She does great on a leash, loves the water, and playing with her toys.
If you’re ready for a loving and loyal companion who will bring endless fun, excitement, and affection to your life, Shelby is the one for you!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -
Paws New England is a foster-based rescue. Our dogs reside in various locations throughout the South and New England.
Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.
Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
