Meet Diesel — The Ultimate Comeback Kid!
This bulky boy has already beaten the odds and stolen hearts along the way. When Diesel was first rescued by Paws New England, he was clinging to life, battling advanced heartworm disease. Two veterinarians advised euthanasia, believing he’d never survive the harsh treatment — but Diesel’s story was far from over.
Enter Annette, his incredible Mississippi foster mom, who refused to give up on him. With her love, dedication, and tireless care, Diesel slowly fought his way back to health. Once strong enough, he finally began heartworm treatment, and so far, this resilient boy is doing great! Every moment spent saving him was worth it a thousand times over.
While Diesel may always have some lasting heart and lung damage, medication can help if needed — and his spirit is as strong as ever. This week, Diesel arrived in New England and settled into a new foster home, already showing his sweet side. He’s gentle when taking treats, curious about other dogs, and shows off his adorable “Boxer hops” during playtime.
We’re all rooting for this lovable fighter, and we’ll be sharing more updates as his journey continues. One thing’s for sure: Diesel’s best chapters are just beginning!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -
Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.
Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.
Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
