Duke is an absolutely adorable mix - something super handsome but short-legged! He's what we refer to a "low rider."

This handsome fella is an approximately 18-month-old Lab/Basset mix — or, as we like to call him, a low-rider Lab with a whole lot of personality!

Duke is one of those dogs who just wants to be with his person. He is incredibly loving and sweet and would happily spend his days leaning against you, following you from room to room, and making sure you never have to go anywhere alone. He loves his people and wants all the love and hugs he can get.

Duke is still very new to us after being surrendered by his owner for a very valid reason - Duke has separation anxiety - not a bit, but a decent amount. For that reason, apartment living is not for this boy - he does not like to be alone and will make it known. He has been on medication for this, but the trick for Duke is finding him someone who is home lots - and who will take him on car rides when they can.

Duke is currently fostering with many dogs in a doggie daycare/boarding house where his foster lives - he seems to enjoy the company of the dogs, although he clearly already shows that his person is "his" person. He has not shown any aggression with this but lets dogs know he's not a fan of them getting too much attention.

He is so cute in person it's ridiculous - big body, short legs and gorgeous smile (his teeth are soooo white).

Duke is a lovely dog - there's not much else to say about him, honestly. He's house-trained - haven't tried a crate yet, but his prior owner let us know he does not destroy things when left alone or stressed.

Duke is the kind of dog who will give you his whole heart once he knows you're his person. He needs a patient, confident family willing to let him settle in at his own pace, continue working on his confidence and leash skills, and give him the structure and reassurance he needs.

Oh, he will want to sleep in bed with you - and not just in bed, actually close to your head. If you're no dogs on furniture or in bed, this is not your dog. All known information about the animal is listed above. We do our best to give accurate information, but most of our dogs are rescues and do not come with a known history

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the South and New England.

Adoption fees cover pre-adoption veterinary costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age-appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England, if necessary. The adoption fee is set at a level that enables adoption; they do not cover our costs. Thank you for your generosity and interest in our dogs!

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse, whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
