This handsome guy has a medium energy level and a calm, gentle nature that really shines once he feels safe.
Rumpel does well with other dogs, but he needs slow, proper introductions in a neutral location. When introductions are done correctly, he settles in nicely and can coexist well. He is okay with cats — he may sniff them but then simply walks away and doesn’t bother them further.
He has met children and did okay as long as they respect his boundaries and would do best in a home with older, responsible children (7+ or teens). He is gentle, doesn’t jump on people, and truly just wants to be loved on. He’s also very gentle with adults and seniors, soaking up affection whenever it’s offered.
On leash Rumbel walks well but may pull a bit, especially at first. He travels like a pro — calm in the car, either laying down in the seat or resting quietly in a crate. He is house-trained as long as he’s walked within an 8-hour window and is crate trained, spending time crated while his person is at work or sleeping.
Rumpel was rescued from a local shelter by his foster after being attacked by other dogs during feeding time. Despite this rough start, he has shown remarkable resilience and a trusting heart. He is currently fed once a day in the morning and has shown no separation anxiety or aggression issues.
His ideal home would be a fairly active household with a predictable routine — people who work normal hours or from home would be perfect. He enjoys being included in daily life and would love a family who plans to travel with him and continue building his confidence.
If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle companion who’s ready to leave his past behind and start his happily-ever-after, Rumpel may be your perfect match.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -
Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.
Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.
Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
