Meet Heather – a 6-month-old sweetheart with soft eyes, a big heart, and a gentle soul. She may have started her life as a stray, but you’d never know it by how much she loves being around both people and other dogs. Heather is friendly, affectionate, and happiest when she has a buddy nearby — whether that’s a canine playmate or a human friend.Age: Young
Gender: Female
Breeds: Chihuahua, Shepherd
Unknown with Cats
Heather is coming to us from the Memphis Animal Shelter Foster Program - she has been living with her foster family and they love her to pieces - they are going out of town and we agreed to take Heather in our program so she didn't have to go back to the shelter. She's arriving to New England on 8/23/2025.
She’s crate trained, sleeps peacefully through the night, and is doing great with house training — she takes care of business outside every time. Heather is playful with toys, gives the sweetest little wags and kisses, and has already learned how to sit. She’s also not a barker, which makes her wonderfully easy to live with.
When it comes to walks, Heather is learning the ropes. She can be a little unsure when it’s time to put on her collar or harness, but with a gentle hand and a bit of patience, she settles in and enjoys her time outside. She’s making progress every day and will only continue to grow more confident with practice.
Heather would thrive in a calm, loving home where she can keep blossoming at her own pace. She’s been wonderful with the two children she’s met so far, loves canine companionship, and weighs in at about 25 lbs — the perfect small-to-medium size for almost any home.
Heather is ready to be someone’s loyal friend, playful companion, and snuggle buddy — could that be you? 💕

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -
Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.
Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.
Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
