Shelby is a slim, sleek-coated girl who may just be the smartest dog you’ll ever love!

As a young pup, this black-and-white beauty was living on the streets in Mississippi. Her southern rescuers provided care and comfort, and helped her through hip injury that required surgery, from which she has fully recovered.

Shelby has had an active foster journey in New England: one month of tailored 1:1 training then fostering with other dogs with an amazing CT foster family and then lived as a solo dog with another foster family.  Everyone raved about her, and said the same thing: She’s so sweet… and SO SMART!

Her adorable ears show you she’s alert! While she enjoys her puzzle toys, and takes two solid naps a day, she’s not a lounger. She’s keen, observant, and learns commands quickly. Shelby will benefit from having "jobs" or some place to go and have an activity with her person.

This smart, spirited girl that has a knack for finding tasty treats—whether it’s a slice of bread, a bit of grilled chicken, or even a hot dog roll—so her future family will want to keep tempting goodies out of reach. The great news is that she is very responsive to direction and eager to learn, making it easy to guide her with consistent training.

Shelby should do fine with a mature, confident canine sibling. She roughhouses for play and doesn’t always read the cues when another dog is overwhelmed or ready to stop. but her adoption process will definitely include PAWS-coordinated outdoor and in-home meet/greets with adopters and any potential canine sibling(s) to observe
interactions.
A home with a fenced in yard to run get her zoomies out will be great for her. And, with her size and playful nature, kids should be over 12.

Continuing her training is a must for this talented pup and agility classes would be awesome for her to thrive and shine. She’ll love it, and you will, too!

Shelby is already crate trained, but will do best in a home with limited daytime crating. She is also housetrained, and enjoys adventures in the car.
She does great on a leash, loves the water and playing with her toys. See it for yourself here:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue. Our dogs reside in various locations throughout the South and New England.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
