Meet Hunney, the kind of dog who makes you earn her trust (if you’re a man)—but once you do, you get her whole heart and then some ❤️ She is incredibly smart, deeply affectionate, hilariously silly, and the ultimate cuddle bug. Once you become “her humans,” she becomes your “soul dog.”

Hunney was originally rescued in the South as a heavily pregnant, sweet-as-can-be mama and lovingly raised her puppies before finding a home of her own. Three years later, through no fault of her own, she was surrendered back to rescue in rough shape. She returned 20 pounds overweight, had been attacked by a dog, and had limited exercise and exposure to the outside world.
Because of this, Hunney is currently attending a professional behavioral day-training program where she is making meaningful progress with leash reactivity, building her confidence, and navigating unfamiliar situations. A commitment to continuing Hunney’s training is an absolute for her adopter(s).

At home with the people she trusts, Hunney is pure love and a total goofball.
She burrows under blankets to cuddle, happily acts as a weighted blanket, gets spectacular zoomies followed by barrel rolls, and is sure to keep you laughing. She allows her fosters to trim her nails, dress her up, and even offers each paw for her winter booties. She has shown no food aggression, resource guarding, or aggressive behavior toward her trusted humans in her foster home.

Hunney can be fearful of unfamiliar people, particularly men, and needs slow, thoughtful introductions. But her foster dad is proof of what happens when you give her that time. Today, her foster dad is one of her favorite people! She especially loves hiking and cuddling with him (or on top of him).

She can be leash-reactive toward other dogs, though this is an area where her professional training is making a real difference and we expect this to continue to improve with continued training. Hunney is exceptionally smart and food motivated, which makes her a wonderful training partner.

-Daily exercise, mental enrichment, structure, and plenty of cuddles

Hunney isn’t looking for someone who expects a perfect dog on day one. She’s looking for someone who sees how hard she’s working, believes in the dog she’s becoming, and is willing to keep doing that work alongside her.

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue - our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south and New England.  

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
