Arriving  to New England 7/25/20

Bodeen and Jethro are two super handsome pups arriving to New England this weekend and we do not expect them to last long - this boys are expected to top out at approximately 100 lbs when full grown - they are currently 55 lbs at 7 months of age.

Both boys were surrendered to the West Memphis Animal Shelter by their owner - sadly there are two more brothers at home the owner wanted to keep - we hope they changed their mind.

Still pretty puppy”ish” it will take some patience getting a 55 lb dog housetrained as we doubt they are (but maybe you’ll be pleasantly surprised); they will need puppy behavior school for sue.

They are new to our rescue coming to us from our friends from Paws & Claws in Tipton County  - a great group of women who rescue from the local shelters there in Tennessee.  We had worked with this group at the start of PNE and we are thrilled to be working together again.

Both are great in groups with the other dogs in the shelter so no worries there - a little shy around people at first but that is to be expected.

All of the P&C dogs have been dog tested and have passed with flying colors in play groups (we usually have video) and human tested of course!!  We just can’t promise you right now if they are good with little humans and felines but we can get that done once we move them to one of our foster homes either in Tennessee or New England.

If you like this face, don’t hesitate - fill out an application, we’ll get you some more information and if it’s not a good fit, no harm done - we’re not going to make you adopt a dog that’s not a good fit!!  And if it’s a good fit, everyone wins!!

The dogs coming from our friends at Paws and Claws are rescued from high kill shelters and are then kept in their private center so are not housed in foster homes prior to coming to New England except in certain circumstances when one is available - we cannot therefore guarantee that any dog is housebroken.
8/20/20 Update from foster mom:

Jethro is a lap dog trapped in a big dog body. He is not aware of his size when it comes to snuggles and loves to get in close and fall asleep. He is also a Velcro dog and needs a person that is comfortable with a new shadow. He has been quiet at his foster home despite being a hound. And is relaxed after a long walk or a day of daycare. Contain to nap with or at someone’s feet or to chew on a toy while they are busy.

He currently lives with dogs his size and has interact and play with them a little bit but still rather be with a person.

At his foster home he’s working on getting in and out of the car. Learning how to use furniture, basic commands and leash walking. He’s so far has had no accidents in the house. Has warmed up to people that come over to visit and loves kids. He jumps up to great adults but since most kids are at his level he has yet to jump up but does like to lick them.

He does better with dogs that are 50 pounds and over. Due to his inability to tell how big he really is he can overwhelm small dogs and doesn’t seem to get the signals that he’s being too much.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Interested in a specific dog, please fill out an application if you are interested in a dog. The number of individual inquiries is overwhelming and we are finding it difficult to respond to each one. We cannot guarantee you will receive a timely response.

Paws New England is a rescue, not a shelter, and as such we do not have our dogs housed in one location - they are in foster homes both in New England and in our southern foster homes.   If you’re interested in a specific dog, please complete a short online application and you will receive a reply within 48 hours so you can ask questions.

At present, if a dog is listed on our website, the dog is considered still available HOWEVER, may have applications that have come in before yours but it’s still too early to know if any are a good match; therefore we encourage you to apply.

NOTICE WITH REGARD TO LOCATION OF DOGS:  Please note: Paws New England is a foster-based rescue. We do not have a brick and mortar building to house the dogs we rescue. We have found that dogs in foster homes are much more adoptable because they have been observed in a home setting. Dogs listed with Paws New England typically reside in various locations throughout the south (primarily Tennessee, Texas, and Arkansas) and New England (not necessarily in the state of Rhode Island). You will be notified by the adoption coordinator of the location of the dog you are interested in so you have the ability to decide whether to pursue adoption or not.

Dogs transported to New England are done so at a fee of $150.00 paid directly to the transporting company by Paws New England; no additional transport costs are responsibility of adopter. This fee is included in the adoption donation.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.
