(Note - George is a smallish dog - his photo makes him look much larger!!))
George is a 1.5-year-old, 27-pound mixed breed (DNA testing revealed Terrier, Pekingese, Dachshund, Min Pin, and other breeds).
He’s well-versed in basic clicker training, including commands like sit, place, touch, and target.
George thrives in a calm environment, preferably an all-female household with a confident dog companion. He’s great with kids who are gentle and loves playing with other dogs, especially his canine housemate.
George is not prone to separation anxiety and does well when left alone with the other dog. He sleeps in a crate at night but also enjoys cuddling in bed.
George is exceptionally food-motivated, which helps with training. His favorites include mini milk bones, chicken feet, bully sticks, beef tendons, and the occasional pizza crust.
George really needs a fenced yard to run and play, as he loves getting the zoomies and rolling in the grass.
He is excellent on a leash,
George is currently in a very loving home but has decided that the male in the house is not his friend - this is a kind, gentle human who has worked hard to win George’s trust since adoption, but he is just not having it. He hides and is still nervous when his human dad tries to interact with him; his parents are crushed as they adore him and have worked with the Tufts Behavioral team to help with this situation. At this point, it’s recommended that he find a new spot to call his own so he’s not always on guard.
Strangely, George deems other men trustworthy—his mom’s dad comes over and George loves him! Some other men - the same. So it’s not a definite “no man home” for George, just has to be one he approves of.
Another happy, confident dog in the home is a must for George. He enjoys their company and will help with his adjustment.
