Breeds: Pit Bull Terrier
Fostering in Connecticut
Meet Appa (or Appa Papa), a lovable goofball with a heart full of love and a playful spirit! This charming boy will follow you around with a toy in his mouth, eager to make sure you’re doing well and ready to lend a paw—especially if you happen to be near the fridge. He’s a big fan of the “cheese tax” and is slowly warming up to fruits and vegetables as snacks, but a frozen Kong is always a hit with him.
Toys and Play:
Appa absolutely adores carrying toys around and will eagerly fetch them if you ask, “Where’s your toy?” Hard toys are the way to go if you’d prefer not to pick up pieces of fluff and squeakers, but Appa will happily dig through his toy box and choose his favorite for the day. He enjoys playing fetch and often entertains himself, though he’d love for you to join in the fun.
Adventures:
Car rides and trips to the store are some of Appa’s favorite activities. He loves exploring new places and meeting new people. Whether it’s a hike with plenty of sniffing spots or sunbathing in the backyard, Appa is always up for an adventure.
Home Life:
Appa is like a bull in a china shop when he gets excited, so he’s best suited for a home with older children who can handle his enthusiastic energy. He’s working on his manners at home, including learning not to counter-surf, though he’ll sit patiently and watch you cook. He is crate-trained and sleeps there at night with his toy and a snack.
Social Skills:
Appa is making progress with his manners around other dogs. With a trainer’s guidance, he’s currently living with foster siblings and is especially good with smaller dogs of either gender after slow introductions. He’s comfortable with two dogs his size, although supervision and guidance are still required on challenging days. Appa would also thrive as a solo dog; he just needs a toy box to keep him happy.
Training:
Appa walks well on a leash (see videos), knows his basic commands, and is highly food-motivated. He enjoys couch naps and loves to be your personal blanket.
Special Needs:
Appa has spina bifida, requiring him to wear belly bands and diapers due to some incontinence. He stands patiently for changes and doesn’t mind baths, whether inside or outside. His care routine is simple, and he quickly learns how to adapt.
What He Needs:
Appa is looking for a home where he can be the amazing dog he is. Though he came from a loving home, a lifestyle change in his previous owner’s life has brought him here. He needs a family that appreciates his playful nature, understands his special needs, and is ready to give him all the love and guidance he deserves.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -
Paws New England is a foster-based rescue. Our dogs reside in various locations throughout the South and New England.
Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.
Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
