This little peanut if Fia - all 10 lbs of her! She’s so little when you meet her you’re surprised as her pictures always make her look bigger than she is. Her personality is pretty big though.

The most important thing for this girl is someone to be her person. She can live with several people, but true to her breed, she’s going to have one person to be hers. She’d love the company of another dog, and we think it would be good for her to have a canine friend—her foster mom says she “leans into” their dog when she seems unsure of something.

Fia was surrendered to us during the winter when she suffered an unknown occurrence injury to her spine - her former dad thinks that it was the big mastiff in the home - they played together all the time. We took Fia to a fabulous neurosurgeon who was able to get her walking again. She has some limitations to prevent a second injury - not many stairs, no real roughhousing with other dogs.

Her personality will suck you right in - she’s adorable. She’s visiting with the person writing this bio and she was fantastic with my two dogs right away and they with her. There were zero issues except for an initial interaction where she told them what’s what for about 2 minutes - and then it’s been smooth sailing.

Fia 100% needs some help with some separation anxiety - a home where someone is home lots of the time would be the best place. She’s pretty tiny, so she’s easy to pack up and take with you when you can. She has started some anti-anxiety medication (extremely inexpensive) that should help tremendously.

She loves the three kids and dog at her foster’s house. Her foster dad has worked to convince her that he is not scary, and they have become cuddle buddies.

She calms in the crate reasonably quickly but does get very excited when she hears you come home. She has done a few longer stints in the crate during the day, and this is an option, but she is happier when you are home. She sleeps in the crate at night but near her people.

Fia will use a pee pad when needed (maybe cold winter nights, storms etc)

Fia’s dream life would also include a few shorter walks a day. She is an angel on the leash but tires out after about 30 minutes. Similar to us humans, walking seems to decrease her anxiety.

Fia has so much love to give and deserves her happy ending. Did we mention she is gorgeous as well? We know that the perfect home for her is out there!

And she has the most adorable little walk—a wiggle that so cute, perhaps because of her injury and resultant leg strength. And when she pees, she kicks up with the determination of a German Shepherd!

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue. Our dogs reside in various locations throughout the South and New England.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
