Ahava means “love” in Hebrew and this dog surely lives up to her name. She’s absolutely stunning as well. Everyone who has met her has complimented her on her beauty.

This girl was a stray and landed at the Memphis Animal Shelter on the euthanization list. At the last minute, a kind-hearted rescuer found and saved her, and PAWS took over from there. She is now settling into her New England foster home - a very intelligent and adaptable dog that has been a joy to foster!

A quick learner, Ahava was skittish when she first arrived in her foster home but she has become more social as time goes on, making many human and canine friends. She likes to wrestle with her canine friends, but will disengage if her playmate gives her a warning or when you call her name. She is also responsive to human correction and positive reinforcement.

Ahava is extremely sweet and mellow and is now adjusting to a life where she’s safe and cared for. She’s quite content to nap or chew on an antler as long as she’s in the same room as you, but she also needs regular walks or other exercise activities to get her energy out during the day. After that, she’s fine spending the rest of her time as a couch potato.

Ahava is crate trained and while she may fuss for a few minutes, she’ll quickly settle until you get home. She has also been left out alone in the house with no issues. Normally she spends the night in her crate with the door open, softly snoring.

This gorgeous gal loves, loves her squeaky toys (and is a professional de-stuffer of them). She always enjoys a game of fetch or tug o’ war.

Once she gets used to you, she’s great on leash. However, if she sees a squirrel, rabbit or other small creature, the chase is on. She does well in the car, and has gone on long car trips with no issues.

Ahava has lived with both kids and dogs. While very affectionate with kiddos and playful with pups, we feel dog-savvy kids 8 or older would be best for her as well as fellow dog siblings around her size or bigger (though with proper introductions she’s done well with small dogs too!). She is a big lady who is working on her jumping as well as playful mouthing, both easily correctable with training. We would love to see her with a dog savvy, confident owner who knows proper introduction protocols and is willing to take new experiences and transitions for her slowly, as well as continue with her training.

She would love a home with another play buddy, but would also be just fine being the center of attention as well!

After she’s gotten to know you, Ahava can read the room well. So if you want a playmate, she would be happy to indulge. But if you just want to relax, she’ll happily curl up at your feet. She is a wonderful girl and the canine addition to your family that you’ve been looking for!!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue - our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south and New England.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
