Ben Nevis is named for the highest peak in the West Highlands of Scotland. The name means ‘Cloud Mountain’ and, given his white and pale cream coat, it seemed fitting for this noble little dog to have such a majestic name.

Ben Nevis had a catastrophic encounter with a car after going missing from his home of origin. The owner, when contacted through his chip info, said he had been missing over for over 6 months and they weren’t interested in having him returned.

Once our vets examined Ben, it became apparent that he was badly injured and must have holed up somewhere and healed on his own, without benefit of vet care.

As a result, his left front leg is turned out, but functional. His left iliac (the pelvic wing) healed without being set, and overlays his spine. Lastly, Ben Nevis has slight sacral nerve damage that affects his urinary and bowel continence
lightly. He is on medication that help a lot. If you’re able to “express” him morning and night he should be 100% fine. This is not hard to do in a small dog!!!

We had him examined by an orthopedic surgeon to make sure his elbow was not “fixable” but it is not - he uses it and should not have issues - he’s a smaller dog and should not have the issues a bigger dog w/ this condition would have.

Best of all, with access to a doggy door, Ben Nevis has perfect house manners.

Oh, and Ben LOVES his squeaky toys…stuffies and skinnies alike. He insists on carrying one outside every trip. LOL. Foster mom spends lots of time bringing said toys indoors.

Ben Nevis loves a car ride, so he clearly holds no grudges. And he takes a bath like a champ.

Despite this adverse event, Ben Nevis is the happiest little westie mix on earth. He loves his foster siblings, large and small. He LOVES his foster mom. And he is a champ at eating whatever is put before him.

His attitude of gratitude is a lesson for the hardest of hearts.

If you love West Highland Terriers and have a heart for a doggo that will give back more love than you could ever give, Ben Nevis is for you.
