Look who’s in New England!!

Let me give you a glimpse into what it would be like to add her to your life: you could take her ANYWHERE in the car. She loves it, and she rides great in the backseat. She sits and looks out the window, or spreads out and sleeps if it’s on the way home from an adventure. She does well leash walking but gets distracted by excitable things: dogs, people and will just want to go see them. She is strong and strong willed to go have fun.

She has a lot of energy, and she doesn’t know quite her size and she doesn’t think people mind not having personal space. She does take corrections very well from other dogs. So a mature or dog savvy dog would be a great potential playmate, and she would love to have a dog she can meet up with and play with. She does however like to scale things (and has proven this with an 8’ fence), so we’re saying walks and leashed exercise is needed – no fenced in areas.

She would make an excellent companion for hikes, runs, long adventure days out and about. She does settle down, but she needs strong guidance on when / how to do so. Consistent training and some work teaching her to settle and stay would be necessary, but it’s so easy to do. She will lay down and just watching life go by and enjoy it with a little guidance from her human.

Lunae is completely food motivated. She is smart, and eager to please, and once she realizes you have treats, she’s practically glued to your side, watching you to see what she needs to do to get a treat.

Lunae is a lovable and loving gal. She is a leaner if I ever met one. Her head, her body, everything will get rested on you when her energy starts to get spent or if she thinks you’re a good cuddler.

Here’s her backstory (as you can see, she has never given up on others, and she has already come a long way): Lunae was found wandering the streets of Tennessee all alone. It was found that in her short life, so many humans had failed her.

Her first adopter gave her away when she was six months old. Her second “family” left her in the backyard alone. One day she escaped and they could have cared less. Her first owner was contacted by a woman who found her, as Lunae still had their tag on. Their response was to take her to a shelter.

Luckily, a neighbor of the founder, a PAWS southern rescue partner, volunteered to foster Lunae. Once we heard her story, she was welcomed into our rescue.

Having spent most of her life alone in a backyard or on the street, so much is new to her, so she will need continued training, However, she is very treat motivated and smart…the perfect combo! She has already learned to sit on command, is learning to walk on a leash, and is doing well.

Lunae is house-trained, and although not her favorite place, she is also crate trained.

She is working on not jumping when excited, so for now, we think a home with older children would be best, as she could topple over little humans. She can jump so high she actually scaled a six-foot fence in her frustration of being left outside all alone.

We’ve had her in a board and train as she was showing too much excitement with other dogs and not taking social cues - it’s hard to learn these if not done at the right age. Her trainer believes she’d be best as an only dog only because she doesn’t know when to stop and another dog may not enjoy this resulting in “arguments.”

Lunae absolutely adores car rides and would just love to be your errand partner.

We are on a mission to find this girl a loving home where she will never be abandoned or tossed aside again. She deserves nothing less. Please consider her to become your new best friend.

And take a look at all the hard work she’s put in at training (although we are still thinking only dog would be the best for her):

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue - our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south and New England.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need
