This absolute stunner of a chow is Moses - a regal, handsome boy!!
We don’t always require breed experience but any Chow Chow lovers will know why we are requesting it for this guy - at 5-6 years old, he’s pretty set in his chow ways. They are a breed unto their own.
Moses was saved by one of our volunteers In Memphis in March when their local shelter reached out about a chow who was picked up. He had been in the shelter for 1 week and no staff member was able to get him out of his kennel during that period.
When our volunteer who is chow savvy arrived she didn’t see an aggressive dog, she saw a fearful shut down one. After pulling him that day, he was transferred to her clinic where they discovered he had a shatter hip due to trauma, bilateral eye entropian (eyelashes curling back onto the eyeball, causing pain to the retina), he was incredibly underwent and evidence of buckshot on x-rays. The absolute torture this dog has endured is unbelievable .
But fast forward to today! Moses has fully healed from his surgeries and has come out of his shell with his rescuer/foster mom’s hard work.
DIRECT FROM HIS FOSTER MOM WHO KNOWS HIM BEST
Here’s the part about Moses. He is true to his breed and has picked his person and not wanting to open up to others in the home the same way. He has made serious progress trusting my husband but he has a long way to go to have full trust. Because of his past and trust issues and him sticking true to his breed, Moses will he adopted to chow chow experienced owners only. No kids even to be entertained or who visit on a regular basis, please.
A single person home would be ideal or an extreme chow savvy couple who understands he’s going need time to trust you. He does good with other dogs in the home as well but can be dominant with males - he prefers females.
A lot to ask - maybe - but he’s in no hurry to move and his foster mom is willing to wait for that one home that is “it” for this boy - his life up until March was obviously pure hell - that won’t be occurring again.
