Breeds: Wheaten Terrier, Crossbreed
Currently in New England…Twiggy, a 2 year old Wheaten Terrier mix (best guess) that came to us from the Memphis area. She was picked up as a stray and stayed briefly at the Memphis Animal Shelter before she was scooped up by one of our amazing southern rescue partners. From there, Twiggy spent the next two months in her southern foster home finally enjoying eating regularly and being treated for heartworm.
Twiggy was adopted upon her initial arrival to New England, but it turned out the household did not fit her personality, so she was again placed in foster care, where she is thriving.
Her current fosters say Twiggy is a fluffy lovebug who will win your heart quickly when she snuggles next to you and gently nudges your hand for more attention.
This sweet terrier mix is house trained, crate trained and does not chew or “explore” shoes or other objects in the house.
In her foster home, Twiggy is left on her own during the work day and enjoys an outing with a dog walker.
Twiggy is always ready for a walk since exploring and sniffing are two of her favorite activities. After her outdoor adventure, she’ll come back into the house and settle where you settle; happy to nap, play with her toys, and take in all the affection and treats you’d like to give her.
Twiggy does find it quite difficult to meet new humans in a welcoming way. She’s protective of her people, wary of strangers and can be somewhat aggressive.
With slow introductions and lots of reassurance, she has become friends with visitors, but would do best in a quiet household with one or two adults (children and teens create too much energy) and no other dogs. Twiggy was recently started on medication that will hopefully help with this behavior, but we still are requiring the same adoption restrictions.
If you feel that you have the perfect loving adoptive home for Twiggy to feel safe and calm, please apply now. She will reward you with unconditional adoration and will truly be your snuggly best friend.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -
Paws New England is a foster-based rescue - our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south and New England.
Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.
Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
