Sweet Maci - supposedly loved but left behind. Yup, her parents moved one day and left her in the apartment they shared with another person - that person came home from work and there she was - they were long gone. At least he had the good sense to ask for some help for her and she landed with one of our partner rescues in Memphis. We were told Maci has some separation anxiety but have seen no signs of it.
She’s settling into her new foster home and is fitting in just fine. She’s at work with a previous foster mom in some pics and has been great meeting some new people.
Maci is a sweet 7 year old hound girl that is content to just hang out, walk around the yard and then do some snoozing. Her favorite bed is the couch! She’s very friendly with the 4 dogs she’s with, but not an immediate “player”. After about 2 weeks in her foster home she began to initiate some play with the other dogs, but if you’re looking for vigorous fun playmate for your current dog, she’s not for you. If you’re looking for a dog to keep your other dog company, and maybe do some playing, this is the girl.
She’s also great in a home as an only dog and would make anyone a great easy going companion.
Besides being gorgeous, Maci is housebroken. She is not destructive when left loose in the house. When she arrived she was a counter cruiser and would steal food off her foster mom’s plate, but in less than 2 weeks she almost has stopped both behaviors just with verbal corrections. So we know she’s smart and wants to please.
Maci needs continuing training on leash walking, but she’s not terrible and learning fast.
Maci has been noted to have separation anxiety and has trouble settling down if you leave the home - the degree of this has varied - in her current foster home she has experience almost none of this - perhaps the company of the 3 other dogs in the home helps. In a prior adoptive home it was reported she was anxious and did not do well. Therefore we are looking for a home where there are people home a fair amount of time - we know you can’t be there 24-7 but with some conditioning we feel she can overcome her issues with disability with this anxiety.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -
Paws New England is a foster-based rescue - our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south and New England.
Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.
