Rusty is a lap dog… a lover boy, an expert snuggler, and a passionate, sloppy kisser! When he’s not hugging your hips and snoring on your lap or rocking with you in a hammock, he’s looking to play!
Rusty would do best in a home with another young, playful dog. He has learned to take correction and be considerate when his older foster sister is done playing, but a young dog that can match his energy and play style would be ideal! He’s also getting better at respecting boundaries while his foster sister is eating and drinking.
Did we mention he’s a sloppy drinker! A water-bowl area that can get wet is a must.
Although he is two years old, he acts very much like a big puppy. He may mischievously steal something of yours or play bite to get your attention. He’s very smart and knows that he chose your belt instead of the many toys available to him, but he thinks it’s a game to give it up, so as with any young dog, he’ll benefit from some training.
He does understand No. Rusty loves to play, and we think he’d do best with a fenced yard.
He walks pretty well on leash without pulling or sniffing too much. He’s interested in the sights and sounds around him and smart around cars. He’s not highly treat motivated, but does love his toys and bones!
Rusty is full of happy-go-lucky energy and will light up a room with his big smile! He my also knock a few things over in that room, but he’s so darn cute when he does it, it’s hard to get mad at him. H
e LOVES people and is HIGHLY affectionate. He is recovering from mange and, while his fur grows back, he does well with his medicated biweekly baths. His skin must feel really good afterwards because he runs in high-speed with exuberance.
He is also really good in his crate, quiet and content, during the day when you can’t supervise him or at night for bedtime. He does not appear to have any anxiety whatsoever!
He enjoys long car rides. The more time spent close to you, the better.
If you want a dog to make you laugh and light up your life with loads of love, kisses, and attention, he’s the one!

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.
Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
