Local Boy -

NUGGET is an absolutely 4 yo stunning Aussie. So gorgeous in person matched only by his loving, but quirky, personality. Anyone with Aussie experience knows what we mean.

We are asking that only Aussie experienced people inquire or apply. We typically don’t require breed experience, but this boy is very different and special.

When you meet him, he will pretend he doesn’t like you. He’ll get all puffy and bossy - it’s all a show. Within a few hours he is stuck to you like glue. You must understand this and be willing to let him settle.

We feel having at least one other dog is comforting for him - unless you are home 24-7 and have him with you at all times, other friendly, confident dogs in the home is helpful. .

Change for this boy is not easy - when he switched fosters he grieved for 24 hours wailing and crying for his first foster mom. He then of course glommed on to his new foster dad - he adores him; his former owner was a male so maybe that’s why.

Most important for this dog is exercise, brain stimulation, and frisbee throwing - he loves it. Even with other dogs in the home, he requires a good deal of stimulating activity.

He does not entertain strangers well-if you have people in and out of your house all the time, this isn’t your dog. He will require work in this area.

He’s living with older kids and does just fine (see pic).

In short we know that his perfect adopter is mostly a unicorn but we love him so much we will wait for that unicorn (or as close as possible) shows up.

Nuggets charming side.
~Nugget is a snuggle bug and so loyal. He will be glued to your side.
~In typical Aussie fashion Nugget can play for hours and hours and hours.
~He needs a job and he needs direction, always.
~Very gentle when taking treats.
~He walks well on leash, pulls a bit but we are working on that and he is getting better.
~He enjoys car rides and will gladly tag along on errands around town.
~Quick learner - see video! And so proud of himself when he gets it down!

Nuggets Challenge:

~Nugget is making strides in meeting new people - if they have a dog with them he loves meeting the dogs and isn’t as afraid of the peeps - he won’t ever be a super social with humans dog but he’s trying.
~He does well on walks with treat distraction.
~He will bark at your feet, won’t bite but will definitely let you know he’s not comfortable; once he’s comfortable all bets are off on who gets the couch first!
~In typical Aussie fashion, Nugget is on constant alert. He could be snoring on the couch and one sudden movement or noise and he’s up and ready to go.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue - our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south and New England.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
