Are you looking for a young dog friend, but the idea of manic puppy energy makes you tired? Looking for a Good Girl who wants to amble and saunter through life by your side rather than running a marathon? Take a quick peek at PEEKY because she might be just the friend you are looking for!

Peeky is an amazing 3-year-old Chow mix a friend of PAWS found near Memphis, TN. We know she had some bad luck while living as a stray, but her loving and trusting nature brought her into rescue where her luck changed!

Peeky loves people. She’s grateful to be in a safe space and adores being brushed and snuggled with. She loves to “talk” to her people! She isn’t an excessive barker, but she does like to show her appreciation vocally sometimes. She wants a human friend to snuggle up with to cuddle.

Peeky is dog tolerant, but she will require slow introductions and time to slowly get acquainted with any other dogs she sees. She would also be perfectly content to be your one and only. She is not a fan of incessantly playful dogs or dogs who aren’t well versed in interpreting doggie cues. She will interact, but no means no, and any other pup in the home needs to be respectful of that.

When Peeky was rescued, we found some old injuries to her right back limb/hip and her right front limb. She underwent successful surgery to repair her hip. Her front limb and paw have some nerve issues, but surgery is not needed. She has been attending physical therapy for strengthening her limbs, and she has regained muscle tone and full use of her back leg, but she still walks with a little limp of her right front leg. We affectionately call it her “funky arm” and she likes to present it when meeting new people.

Because of this, we don’t think Peeky will ever run a fast race or hike a tall mountain with you. We think she would prefer lots of tours of the neighborhood, lots of aimless ambles here and there. She’s up for anything; just at a little slower pace than most three year olds.

A daily joint supplement for the remainder of her life is recommended. Continued therapy would be helpful to keep her strong and her joints moving well, but it isn’t a requirement as long as she has an active-for-her-ability lifestyle. Just keep her moving, but regular paced instead of strenuously.

Due to her occasional quirks and her injuries, it would be best that she be in an adult home where there would be an understanding of both. She wants a low-key life filled with her people, lots of love, and security she should always have had.

Peeky is an amazing dog that was not deserving of what she was dealt in her young life. She will flourish in a home that will guide her to be the best dog that she can be. And believe us, her best is truly delightful.
