Teddy is like most of the dogs we have (had) in our rescue - he’s adorable (aren’t they all though), he’s had something terrible happen to him but he hasn’t given up (most don’t), and this boy just wants to live his very best life (and he’s well on his way). But something about this guy, well is just special.

We thought we’d let him tell you his story - he’s quite the character - we did have to tone down some of his language so it may not be as colorful as he may have liked it to be but we don’t think he can read (although we are not 100% sure of that honestly).

Howdy - My name is Teddy and I am originally from Iran, yes, Iran!! Far away and let me tell you it was a long damn trip getting here. Some nice woman Yasi comes to Iran and bring as many of us awesome “special” (not sure what they mean by that, assuming smart and cute?) dogs back with her to people in the USA to help us. Also, a couple of my friends were talking about this place called America where dogs are given non-stop belly rubs and snuggles so I decided to tag along!

So the short story is I could walk once upon a time but I can’t now - I don’t like talking about how it happened, I’ll let my peeps here tell you about it - it’s all good now as my foster mom and “aunties” here in the USA are taking amazing care of me. I’ve had a visit with an amazing neurologist and Paws New England got me an MRI that showed them lots of information. The good news, ready…. they think with some PT and continued work with my foster mom, I have a very good chance of walking again!! And let me tell you, these ladies took this seriously and I’m exhausted!!!

I’m in a set of wheels right now and let me tell you what a blast that is. I am loving every second of it. It’s almost like walking again - they thought I was fast just dragging myself around, they can’t believe how great I am in the wheels!! I seriously could do the Daytona 500 - 0-4 mph in .2 seconds…. (See videos….. )

But if I can walk again some day that would be amazing so I’m willing to work hard.

My foster mom had my DNA tested and it turns out I am the following -
44% Class A clinger (I will keep the bath mat warm for you while you shower)
32% Gremlin
14% Snuggle bug
10% Maltese

They tell me I have something called separation anxiety - they think it’s pretty understandable given all the changes i’ve had - I was fine in March, not walking all of a sudden and then moved from the only home I ever knew. So yeah, I’m a little discombobulated but I’m working at not being so clingy - it takes time (and help with some great meds). But I’m small enough (and fast enough) that I can go almost anywhere with you if you want to take me.

Having another dog to play with is great for me or even letting me go to doggie day care would be great - I do well with dogs and play tug of war and all that stuff. I love playing chase when I’m not in my wheels and you’d be surprised how fast I can get around chasing another pup!

I’d love someone(s) fun to live with - active people would be amazing - I love cruising around the city - I’m living in Cambridge, MA right now and have zero issues wheeling down the street with my foster mom and canine foster brother. We go to the park and the wheels are are great on grass too but I also love getting in my drag bag and having fun on the grass. I know everyone thinks having a fenced in back yard is nice but me, I much prefer a stroll along the Charles (or some other fun place). I want to be active and exercising and working toward my ultimate goals and I’d love you to be right there with me.

NOTE FROM PAWS NEW ENGLAND:
Teddy will require physical therapy for at least another 6-12 months - we are prepared to cover 50% of the cost for the therapy if you require assistance. For the right home if 100% coverage is needed we can of course do this but if not needed those funds can go to another dog in need. His medical needs should be the same as any other dog and thus would be covered by his new family.

Teddy is not incontinent per se as some paralyzed dogs but does require expression of his bladder several times a day which is not difficult and easily learned!! He wears a belly band while in the house.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue - our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south and New England.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
