Mercy - one of those dogs that you could just hug and kiss all day and she’d let you in a heartbeat!!!

She’s a wiggly thing, short and stocky with a typical Staffie body. She tries so hard to contain her “exuberance” when she meets you but it’s almost impossible so we will recommend some good ole’ basic training for this girl - just to learn that the sound of your voice saying “no Mercy, no jumping and kissing” means no jumping and kissing (even if the intended victim doesn’t mind).

Completely housetrained although in an effort of full disclosure she will not poop outside in the rain…. it is what it is.

Crate trained with zero issues in her crate - happy to go in and hang out.

She’s not particularly mouthy and would do okay in a home with older kids - we say older because of the aforementioned “exuberance” which may not sit well with little ones.

Taking pictures of this girl was not easy - you look at her and she thinks that means you want to give her love so it’s hard to sneak a pic in between!!

Mercy has had a very long and tough road in the first part of her life - rescued of a chain in someone’s back yard where she lived the first 3 years of her life with about 10 feet of movement (probably explains the excitement of getting to run). Not only that, she had a very serious rectal prolapse that was left unrepaired for a long time - once we got her into rescue and here in New England, we were able to get into Tufts where she underwent surgery and has since done great with no expect long-term issues.

She has one final hurdle - she is heartworm positive but is about to start the final stage of treatment for this - it’s not terribly scary so don’t let it make you stop reading - we have an amazing support team to help Mercy and you get through it - we cover the expenses for her treatment and it’s not a huge time involvement - a typical case is 3 visits to one of our partner vets we use for heartworm (Tufts included). Our heartworm team is amazing, truly and will be there for you!!!

This sweet pea has really had it tough but as is the case with most of these wonderful creatures, the past does not define the future.
Here’s a quick video showing Mercy getting her favorite ear rubs and the start of her zoomie session!

As cute as she is, we do think someone with prior bully experience is best for this girl.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue - our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south and New England.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your newly adopted dog will help others in need.
