Ember was found behind an abandoned house chained to a gate. She had recently had puppies but none were located nearby. Through a few people that truly care about animals, a foster mom was found. Her first couple of days she roamed the yard seeming to look for her puppies, but soon got accustomed to her new environment and new dog friends!

She loves other dogs after taking a few minutes to meet them. Her foster recommends a good fenced in yard, as she likes to roam and explore. The first few days it seemed Ember was determined to get out to find her pups, but she is now a bit better.

Ember is great in her crate, it is always open when foster is home and she goes in there to lay down frequently. She also sleeps there through the night. She has recently gotten spoiled and sleeps at the end of the bed with her foster mom and 2 canine siblings.Ember is house trained and will wait at the door when she needs to potty. She also does fine on a leash and does not react to dogs while walking. She does not guard her food, but will try to eats her siblings food before they are not quite done, so best feeding her separately.

Ember does well with dogs, especially given that her foster siblings are extremely high energy! She fits right in! A confident canine sibling would truly benefit her. Ember’s fosters dogs have really helped her open up. Ember is still figuring out what is a toy and what isn’t- for example, she has carried around shoes and has tried to take couch pillows and blankets out the doggy door. However, she has not torn up anything major or shown destructive behavior. She is very smart, so reinforcement is working very well.

Ember’s perfect home would provide a lot of comfort and care. She has been through a lot lately. She is very timid and needs a bit of extra help to stay calm when confronting new environments and new people. She really likes affection and to be loved on. When she jumps up on the couch or walks up to you randomly, she is wanting to be petted and loved on. When she is bit nervous and whiny, all it takes is talking to her and paying some attention to her and she calms down and goes to sleep.

Ember is also is partial to female humans. She may take a while to warm up to a male, but we feel it will happen with time. She will stay far away and bark until that trusted human convinces her that she is safe. She has been around kids and did great, but none younger than 7. She does still have some jumping and mouthing behaviors when she gets excited, but responds easily to correction.

Ember needs a home that will help welcome her and really help her get comfortable to this brand new safe loving world that she never knew existed! She will require a quite home, with someone home most of the time and understands shy dogs. It may take her a while to really get comfortable in a new place. It’s truly an amazing experience to witness this transformation!!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Interested in a specific dog, please fill out an application if you are interested in a dog. The number of individual inquiries is overwhelming and we are finding it difficult to respond to each one. We cannot guarantee you will receive a timely response.

Paws New England is a rescue, not a shelter, and as such we do not have our dogs housed in one location - they are in foster homes both in New England and in our southern foster homes. If you’re interested in a specific dog, please complete a short online application and you will receive a reply within 48 hours so you can ask questions.

At present, if a dog is listed on our website, the dog is considered still available HOWEVER, may have applications that have come in before yours but it’s still too early to know if any are a good match; therefore we encourage you to apply.

NOTICE WITH REGARD TO LOCATION OF DOGS: Please note: Paws New England is a foster-based rescue. We do not have a brick and mortar building to house the dogs we rescue. We have found that dogs in foster homes are much more adoptable because they have been observed in a home setting. Dogs listed with Paws New England typically reside in various locations throughout the south (primarily Tennessee, Texas, and Arkansas) and New England (not necessarily in the state of Rhode Island). You will be notified by the adoption coordinator of the location of the dog you are interested in so you have the ability to decide whether to pursue adoption or not.

Dogs transported to New England are done so at a fee of $150.00 paid directly to the transporting company by Paws New England; no additional transport costs are responsibility of adopter. This fee is included in the adoption donation.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption vet costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. We appreciate your understanding that your dog will help others in need.

All known information about the animal is listed above. We do our best to give accurate information, but most of our dogs are rescues and do not come with a known history.

Paws New England abides by the dog importation regulations set forth in the states of MA, CT, NH and RI.
